DHCP Configuration on Cisco's Router

  1. DHCP stands for "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol".
  2. DHCP works on Application Layer of TCP/IP model.
  3. DHCP assign the automatic ip address to dhcp client.
  4. The port number of dhcp server is 67(DHCP Server) & 68(DHCP Client)
  5. DHCP scope is the start & end range of ip address that is assigned to dhcp client by dhcp server.
APIPA:- Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is a feature of Windows-based OS included since Windows 98 and Windows ME. It enables a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol client to automatically assign an IP address to itself when there's no DHCP server available to perform that function.
Range of APIPA IP Address is  169.254. 0.1 to 169.254. 255.254.
